Spain continues to be at high risk from the coronavirus. While the incidence fell slightly from the day before in Tuesdayâs Health Ministry report on the health crisis, by three points, the curve of the epidemic continues to be at very high levels. The 14-day cumulative number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants came in at 196 on Tuesday, while the infection rate is growing in 11 regions.
The ministry recorded 6,292 new infections in its latest report, and added 100 Covid-19 fatalities. The data did not include information from Andalusia, which had âtechnical problemsâ with its reporting. Meanwhile, there are still around 10,000 coronavirus patients who are currently hospitalized, with one in every five intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by people with Covid-19.
The fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is advancing in Spain. While it is moving at different speeds from region to region, the curve of infections is growing in nearly all of the countryâs territories â apart from in the Balearic Islands â and the 14-day cumulative number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants now stands at 199, according to the latest Health Ministry report, which was released on Monday. This key data point has risen 21.8% in a week.
Pressure on Spanish hospitals is also rising once more, with more than 10,200 Covid-19 patients currently receiving treatment. Whatâs more, one in five intensive care unit (ICU) beds is occupied by a coronavirus patient, accounting for a total of 2,161 people. The Health Ministry report also added 197 deaths to the official toll, which now stands at 76,525.

Spainâs regions managed to administer nearly 1.3 million Covid-19 vaccines between March 30 and Tuesday, according to the Health Ministry. That figure is similar to that of the seven previous days, when 1.25 million shots were injected, which suggests that the campaign was not slowed down by the Easter break. But this pace will not be enough to hit the central governmentâs targets: the current speed is equivalent to 600,000 people a week, while 1.4 million will be necessary if 70% of the adult population is to be vaccinated by September.
