National health spokesperson Shane Reti visited New Plymouth on Friday.
Smaller regions including Taranaki will be swallowed up in a large health entity under the Government s reforms and lose their individual voice, National s health spokesperson Dr Shane Reti said. Reti, who visited New Plymouth on Friday, criticised the reform of the health system announced by Health Minister Andrew Little on Wednesday, describing it as “rushed and reckless.” The reform will sees all 20 district health boards abolished and replaced with a new nationwide funding body and a separate Māori health authority. “You will disappear into whatever region you re amalgamated with – Palmerston North or Wellington,” Reti said.

WorkSafe is clamping down on safety standards at businesses making engineered stone bench tops, but there are no plans to ban the popular product. Engineered stone made from crushed quartz and resin accounts for up to half the New Zealand kitchen and bathroom bench top market, but the fine dust produced during cutting, sanding and polishing contains high levels of silica which causes accelerated silicosis, an incurable and fast developing lung disease.
