28,903 new cases reported in the last 24 hours along with 188 deaths, it says
Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab together account for 76.4% of active COVID-19 cases currently, with Maharashtra alone contributing nearly 60%, said data released by the Health Ministry on Wednesday.
It reported a surge with 28,903 new cases in the last 24 hours along with 188 deaths. Of the new cases, 83.9% are from Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today said that India is not giving COVID-19 vaccine to the world at the expense of the need of local population.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on demands for grants for the health ministry, he said that the government has not reduced the expenditure on health as has been alleged by certain members.
On the criticism that India is providing coronavirus vaccine to other countries when it is needed more at home, the minister said: We are not giving (the vaccine) at the expense of our own people .

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Tuesday passed a bill to raise the upper limit for permitting abortions from the present 20 weeks to 24 for special categories of women including rape survivors, victims of incest, minors and differently-abled.
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to amend the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 was passed by voice vote. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha about a year ago. A resolution moved by Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa to send the bill to a select committee of Rajya Sabha was defeated by voice vote, along with some other amendments proposed by members.
