TORONTO A long-term care resident in Quebec and a nursing home worker in Ontario received Canada’s first COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday, kicking off the largest immunization campaign in the country’s history.
The shots from drug company Pfizer were administered in Quebec City and Toronto within roughly half an hour of each other, creating some confusion about which of the two hard-hit provinces could lay claim to being the first in the country to hand out doses.

TORONTO/MONTREAL - Canada kicked off its inoculation campaign against Covid-19 on Monday by injecting frontline healthcare workers and elderly nursing home residents, becoming just the third nation in the world to administer the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
The first dose broadcast on live TV went to Anita Quidangen. The personal support worker at the Rekai Centre, a non-profit nursing home for the elderly in Toronto, Canada s largest city, said she was excited to have been first in line.

Canada has become the third nation in the world to administer the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine by starting the COVID-19 inoculation process on Monday, 14 December. Frontline healthcare workers and elderly nursing home residents are amongst the first citizens to receive the vaccine.
Anita Quidangen, an Ontario caregiver, received her injection in Toronto, a week after the vaccine was approved in the country. The dose was broadcast on live TV, and the octogenarian citizen is amongst the first few in the country to receive the shot, reported Reuters.
