Quebec premier scheduled to announce reopening plan at 5 p m news conference

MONTREAL – Quebec Premier Francois Legault is scheduled to announce the province’s reopening plan today. Earlier this month, Legault said he was impressed with Saskatchewan’s “Re-Opening Roadmap” and asked Health Minister Christian Dube to develop a similar plan. Saskatchewan’s three-step plans calls for a gradual reopening with various restrictions lifted after 70 per cent of people above certain age thresholds are vaccinated. It lifts most restrictions three weeks after 70 per cent of all adults in the province receive their first vaccines doses. Quebec has set a goal of vaccinating 75 per cent of all adults in the province by the June 24 Fete nationale holiday. So far, 49 per cent of Quebec adults have received at least one dose of vaccine.

Quebec records record number of coronavirus vaccinations; 838 more cases, eight deaths

MONTREAL Health Minister Christian Dube said Friday that Quebec set a new record for the number of vaccine injections given in a single day, as more 110,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Thursday. In total, Quebec added 112,925 vaccination doses, including 110,119 injections in the past 24 hours bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 4,127,768, which is 46.1 per cent of the population. Quebec has received 4,578,079 doses of vaccine. The minister said he is especially proud of Quebecers aged 25 to 29 because 50 per cent of that demographic has already received their first shot or booked their appointment for inoculation.

Montreal restaurants stage symbolic re-opening while waiting for permission to re-open for real

MONTREAL Restaurants and bars staged a symbolic re-opening Saturday, seeking to remind patrons and politicians alike of the dining experience after 14 months dominated by COVID-19 shutdowns. The faux re-opening no food was served on site came after Quebec bar owners called on the government last month to allow them to unlock their doors for patrons who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The goal is to make the government aware that eventually we will die if we continue to close, Pierre Leveque, owner of Chez Leveque in Outremont, said of the staged reopening. Founded in 1972, the Parisian-style brasserie employed up to 50 people before first shutting its doors on March 17, 2020.
