Taipei, May 22 (CNA) The death toll from COVID-19 has climbed to 17 in Taiwan, after two more deaths were confirmed Saturday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The spike in locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since mid-May more than 2,500 as of Saturday led President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) Friday to call on the public to stay at home this weekend in an effort to slow the spread of the disease.
