Taiwan says it is banning the entry of non-nationals without a resident permit and the transit of international airport passengers.
The ban came after reporting a new daily record of 333 locally transmitted Coronavirus cases.
The temporary suspension will be imposed from May 19 to June 18, Health Minister Chen Shih-Chung told a news conference on Monday.
Monday’s number of locally transmitted cases is a sharp jump from Sunday’s previous record daily high of 206, prompting fresh concern about the trajectory of Taiwan’s outbreak.

Taipei, May 17 : Taiwan is banning the entry of non-nationals without a resident permit and the transit of international airport passengers, after reporting a new daily record of 333 locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said on Monday.
The temporary suspension will be imposed from Wednesday to June 18, dpa news agency quoted the Minister as saying at a news conference here.
Monday s number of locally transmitted cases is a sharp jump from Sunday s previous record daily high of 206, prompting fresh concern about the trajectory of Taiwan s outbreak.

Taipei, May 16 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Sunday urged people who use electronic cards when using public transportation to register their personal information online for better contact tracing for COVID-19.
Major smart card operators EasyCard, iPASS and icash all offer such a service, but their registration rate has remained low at around 30 percent currently, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the CECC, said at a press briefing.

Taipei, May 16 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has received reports of scammers pretending to be from local health authorities in order to obtain people s personal information, officials said Sunday.
The telephone scammers ask people to provide their personal information under the pretense of conducting contact tracing of COVID-19 cases, Deputy Interior Minister Chen Tsung-yen (陳宗彥), also a deputy CECC commander, said at a press conference.
Chen said the Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the scams and he urged people to be aware of them.
