Bengaluru, Jan 1: BJP’s youth wing national president and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has condemned the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s move to name 11 roads in Padarayanapura in western Bengaluru after Muslim social workers who contributed towards the development of the city.
The intervention comes a day after former union minister of state Anantkumar Hegde raised objections over the issue. Both Surya and Hegde belong to the ruling BJP. The BBMP has been superseded by the state government.
Writing to BBMP commissioner, Surya said, “The list of names mooted by the BBMP has only Muslim names. The christening of roads in a Muslim-dominated locality with only Muslim names reeks of the same communal mentality of the two-nation theory and the Muslim League’s demand for separate electorates for Hindus and Muslims. Bengaluru (Karnataka): The total number of people confirmed to be infected with the new UK strain of COVID-19 virus has risen to 25 in India. Of these, seven persons have been detected with the new coronavirus variant in Karnataka.
Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday said that there are seven people in the state who have been detected with the new COVID-19 variant, which is more infectious and transmissible. Out of the UK returnees, seven people in Karnataka have contracted this new variant. 3 under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits and 4 in Shivamogga are infected. Everyone must follow the government guidelines to contain new variant, institutional quarantine must be strictly adhered with, Sudhakar said yesterday.

Bengaluru, Dec 28: Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Monday hinted at stringent action against those returnees from the United Kingdom who were untraceable and had switched off their mobile phones.
It could even be police action against them, the minister indicated.
Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar I request the UK returnees to cooperate with us as responsible citizens. You have to get tested. If you don t get tested and switch off your phone, then it s a crime in true sense, Sudhakar told reporters here.
