97 cases of black fungus reported in Karnataka since covid outbreak: Health Minister

Bengaluru, May 17: As many as 97 people in the state contracted mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, as post-Covid complications in Karnataka, state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Monday. Till yesterday 97 people contracted this (black fungus) disease in the state, Sudhakar told a press conference after a meeting with experts on the black fungal infection.
He, however, appealed to the people not to panic as it does not spread like Covid. It did affect a few people in the state, which I accept.compared to previous years, this year it is more in number, the Minister said.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 16 (ANI): Amid the rising COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, locals in Bengaluru say that they have been facing a lot of difficulties in getting the COVAXIN vaccine.
Many, especially those trying to get the second dose, have expressed concerns since many inoculation centers have closed down over the last few days I came to get my mother s second dose of COVAXIN today. I had come even yesterday. They told me COVAXIN is not available and today they re telling it came later in the day after I left and got over, a frustrated local said.

Bengaluru: Over the last two weeks, Karnataka has witnessed devastating COVID-19 surge, recording the highest COVID-19 related deaths and a worrying number of new cases.
The state emerged as the country’s new COVID-19 hotspot with 5,98,625 active cases, the highest in the country, followed by Maharashtra with 5,21,683 active infections, the union health minister informed.

The state emerged as the country s new COVID-19 hotspot with 5,98,625 active cases, the highest in the country, followed by Maharashtra with 5,21,683 active infections, the union health minister informed.
While cases do seem to be coming down in Bengaluru, the positivity rate remains high - about 38.13 per cent over the last 24 hours.
As per the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), on May 6, 23,706 fresh cases were reported, out of 60,944 cases samples that were tested - a positivity rate of about 39.69 per.
