A senior doctor at the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) in Bihar s capital Patna has sought permission to be relieved of his duty citing lack of oxygen supply in the Covid care hospital. A copy of the official s letter was shared by senior RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav as he slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the lack of Covid care infrastructure in the state.
In his letter to the Bihar Health Secretary, Dr Vinod Kumar Singh has pointed that the hospital is not being provided with adequate oxygen cylinders despite several reminders. The situation, the official warned, could lead to deaths of patients admitted at the hospital as a result of which the blame will be pinned on the hospital administration. Patna, April 15 : The mounting number of Covid cases has resulted in a shortage of oxygen supplies at several hospitals in Patna.
The city s major facilities including Patna Medical College and Hospitals (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and AIIMS are full with Covid patients as a result the smaller hospitals and nursing homes are treating the non-Covid patients. But they have been facing the challenges in obtaining the oxygen cylinders from the companies.
A Medical Superintendent of a private nursing home at Raja Bazar said that his hospital has referred many patients to bigger hospitals of the city due to irregular oxygen supplies by the companies.

Patna: A COVID-19 patient died in the hospital premises allegedly after Patna s Nalanda Medical College & Hospital (NMCH) didn t admit him for long. While other hospitals refused to admit the patient, NMCH made him for an hour and a half. My father was COVID-19 positive. Other hospitals refused to admit him, NMCH hospital agreed. They made us wait outside for 1.5 hours, the son of the deceased said.

Patna: With mounting Coronavirus casualties, relatives and friends taking bodies for cremation at Patna Municipal Corporation-run crematorium at Bans Ghat on the banks of Ganga have alleged that the municipal staff engage in extortion.
On average, 30-40 bodies are being brought to Bans Ghat crematorium from Patna Medical College Hospital, Nalanda Medical College Hospital and AIIMS daily. Due to the overload, the staff members are asking the relatives to wait for their turn. Moreover, out of the two electric cremation machines, only one is functional which has added to the waiting time.
