Israel later on Thursday is set to scrap the capsule study system for fouth graders, moving closer to ending coronavirus restrictions on schools as infection rate keeps falling.
Israel s coronavirus restrictions have almost all been lifted due to the country s high-paced vaccination campaign. However, since children below the age of 16 currently cannot be vaccinated, many curbs on the education system have remained in place but are set to expire this Saturday.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein will present ministers with a plan Thursday for a further easing of coronavirus restrictions on the education system, potentially enabling more students to attend classes in person rather than online.
Edelstein will bring the plan to the coronavirus cabinet, a forum of ministers tasked with laying down policy to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The proposal, a result of consultations between Health Ministry officials and the national parents association, calls for changes in the so-called “pod” system, which limits the number of students who can study as a group.

Months into its mass coronavirus vaccination campaign, Israel sees a drop in COVID infections and in the number of serious cases. Israel has reopened commerce and culture for vaccinated people, and lifted most restrictions on flights. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 6,266 Israelis have died of the virus.
Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have received 30,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and 2,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine donated by Israel, as well as shipments of over 160,000 vaccines via the COVAX scheme. A total of 2,373 people have died of COVID in the West Bank, while 642 have died in Gaza.
