As India gears up to launch the world s largest immunisation drive, almost all states and Union Territory (UT) governments, including the national capital, conducted a dry run on Saturday to assess their ability and readiness to administer Covid-19 shots to hundreds of millions of people, including many in remote corners of the country. The move came day after a government panel recommended for the emergency use approval of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine Covishield and all eyes are on Director Controller General of India (DCGI) for the final nod.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said that a dry run for coronavirus vaccination will be conducted in Pune, Nagpur, Jalna and Nandurbar districts on January 2. Each district will have three health centres with 25 people for vaccination at each centre, he added.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 1 (ANI): As the country awaits a Coronavirus vaccine, the Maharashtra Health Department will conduct a dry run tomorrow in four districts of the state to ensure effective preparedness for its rollout.
The districts of Pune, Nagpur, Jalna, and Nandurbar have been selected for the dry run, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed after a meeting with senior health officials.
All four districts will have three vaccination centers, with each having 25 people for vaccination. Vaccines will not be administered to anyone but all operation preparedness will be tested by this dry run, including manpower management at the centers, protocol following, unhindered power and internet supply, etc, Tope said.

This decision by the Maharashtra government comes after the Center had asked all States and UTs to ensure effective preparedness for the vaccine rollout. Earlier on Thursday, the Union Health Ministry had announced that the COVID vaccination dry run will be conducted by all the State and UT governments on January 2.Â
