Maharashtra has received 1.10 crore doses of anti-COVID 19 vaccines so far, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said on Saturday amid reports that the state is facing an acute shortage of the doses which is hampering its vaccination drive. Speaking to reporters, Javadekar said apart from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajashtan are the two other states that have received more than 1 crore doses.

Maharashtra heading towards Lockdown:- The coronavirus wave in the country reached the peaks and the second wave of cases are having a huge impact on the people. The spread is huge and the daily tally touched 1.35 lakhs today. Maharashtra happens to be the most impacted state of the country and things are beyond the control as the daily tally of cases are increasing at a rapid pace. The state s Health Minister Rajesh Tope told that Maharashtra would be heading for a lockdown soon if the situation will not improve. The Chief Minister conducted a high level review meeting recently and decided to impose lockdown on the weekends across the state. The government is clear that if a lockdown is imposed, it would be quite difficult for the economy to recover. But if the situations will not improve, Maharashtra will head for a lockdown.

What is behind the alarming shortfall being faced by several States, and how long is it likely to last?
The story so far:Several States have been complaining of a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. Their stocks, they say, would suffice for barely three to four days. On the other hand, the Centre admits that while supplies are limited, there is enough for everyone. However, it could not permit universal adult vaccination, said the government.
