Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi says the number of active cases might be around 600,000 by then. “Let’s wish it would not happen,” Tripathi said, “But, this projection is based on the existing trend.” Nonetheless, the government is preparing to face the situation, he maintained. Meanwhile, the minister said the new variant of the coronavirus had attacked youth and children more than adults, and it was more worrisome.

The 69-year-old Nepalese leader received the Covishield jab at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital here on Sunday morning. His wife Radhika Shakya was also vaccinated.
