After days of pressuring the European Union’s medical regulator, Germany’s health minister said on Tuesday that he has received assurances that the European Medicines Agency will approve a coronavirus vaccine by December 23.
Health Minister Jens Spahn told reporters in Berlin on Tuesday he “welcomed” German media reports that said EMA would finalize its approval process of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine by December 23, instead of at a December 29 meeting.

As the British, Americans and Canadians begin getting immunised with a German-developed vaccine against coronavirus, pressure is building on the European Medicines Agency to approve the jab.
German officials have been especially vocal – given the involvement of Mainz-based BioNTech alongside US firm Pfizer – that they want it approved before Christmas.

German officials are pushing European drug regulators to clear Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine before Christmas after their counterparts in the U.S. and the U.K. signed off on it. Our goal is an approval before Christmas, Health Minister Jens Spahn told reporters Tuesday, according to The Associated Press. We want to still start vaccinating this year.
German media reported the European Medicines Agency (EMA) now plans to decide on the approval on Dec. 23, earlier than the previously scheduled date of Dec. 29, a development Spahn said he welcomed.
