COVID-19: Seven-day home quarantine mandatory for people travelling to Assam
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said people travelling to the state from outside will have to undergo mandatory seven-day home quarantine in the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases. However, government officials, those travelling for medical reasons, and people visiting the state in connection with bereavements will be exempted from it, he said.
In a series of tweets, Sarma said, the health department is working relentlessly to ramp up testing by rolling out screening centres in every ward of the state capital.
On April 13, the Assam government had made it mandatory for all air passengers arriving in the state to undergo Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), followed by RT-PCR test, even if the RAT was negative.

GUWAHATI: In the Midst of the rising concerns of the Covid-19 infection, Assam is seen affected by the Indian variant of Double Mutant virus which is also conferred as SARS-CoV-2 or named as B.1.617.
The fresh samples have been collected from the passengers at Dibrugarh Airport, confirming that the most dangerous and modish variation of the covid virus was found against them.
In the context of this rising situation of Covid-19, the State s Health Minister showing his concern says that that the situation is worrisome and everyone needs to be more careful.

GUWAHATI: Popular Assamese singer Bhitali Das passed away here on Wednesday. She was 41 years old. She was recently infected with the Coronavirus and was admitted to the Kalapahar COVID Hospital on April 16.
However, before she breathed her last, she was tested COVID-19 negative.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that she was suffering from diabetes. Her last performance was at the Judges Field during a Bihu programme organized by the All Guwahati Students Union on April 14.

Several states are battling a critical shortage of medical oxygen amid rising Covid cases.

The Assam government has granted the status of ambulance to all oxygen vehicles tankers carrying Nitrogen, Argon and Oxygen in the state, according to a notification issued today.
The decision was taken to mitigate the medical oxygen crisis and to provide its speedy delivery amid the coronavirus pandemic. Assam Govt has granted all oxygen vehicles- tankers carrying Nitrogen, Argon and Oxygen - the status of ambulance, to enable their hassle-free movement in state and transit through Assam for speedy delivery of oxygen to critical centres, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.

GUWAHATI: The Assam government will vaccinate everyone in the 18-45 age group for free from May 1 onwards, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.
Donations received last year for COVID management will be utilised for the purpose, he said.
The state Health Department has already written to Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech for procuring 1 crore vaccines. Assam will give FREE vaccines to everyone from 18-45 years. GOI is giving free vaccines for 45+, Sarma tweeted late on Tuesday.
