MHD anticipates tighter COVID-19 restrictions as positivity rises

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) released on Friday, April 9 an update on the public health and safety order Moving Milwaukee Forward related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The order, in Phase 6, features three COVID-19 gating criteria on a color-coded scale: rate of cases per 100,000 over seven days; percentage test positivity over seven days; city adult vaccination rate.
Over the past week, the Milwaukee Health Department reported negative trends in both the seven-day rate and the percentage of positive tests.
Based on the grating metrics, MHD said it anticipates reverting the order from Phase 6 to Phase 5 next week. That change would include reduced capacity limits.
All city residents ages 16 and older are now eligible to be vaccinated at the sites.
Officials announced last week that the Wisconsin Center in the city’s downtown would become a federal community COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
Of the 3,000 daily doses from the federal government, 2,000 were targeted to go to the Wisconsin Center and 1,000 to community vaccination sites at North Division and South Division high schools, according to the state.
The Wisconsin Center is open by appointment to everyone eligible. As of Monday in Wisconsin, that means all residents ages 16 and older.

The Milwaukee Brewers and the City of Milwaukee have partnered on a new public relations campaign intended to encourage more people to seek out a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Brewers organization held a virtual press conference Monday morning with Mayor
Kirsten Johnson announcing that a number of Brewers were vaccinated over the weekend.
The conference was the same day that the state expanded eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to everyone 16 years or older.
Barrett said the vaccine is the best way to fight back against the COVID-19 pandemic, and that partnering with the Brewers to advocate for vaccination “sends such a positive message to people of all ages and people of all backgrounds.”
