(Bloomberg) Malaysiaâs Covid cases which topped a record 11,000 on Tuesday may climb further in the next few days before stabilizing as the outbreak is being driven by the contagious Delta variant, Health Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

âWe projected that the number of cases from July 3 will increase. It has been a week, and we anticipate that it will go up for a week or two, before we see cases stabilize,â he said at a briefing. âOne of the reasons is because of the Delta variant. It is airborne and so the transmission is faster.â

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia on Tuesday (July 13) announced new measures to support its ailing public health system as the country saw another record daily rise in Covid-19 cases, fueled by the highly infectious Delta variant.
The Southeast Asian country reported 11,079 new infections on Tuesday, the third daily record seen in the past week, and 125 new deaths.
The surge comes even as Malaysia ramped up its vaccination programme and imposed stricter lockdown measures over the past month.
