Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, received his initial dose of a coronavirus vaccine Tuesday morning.
Fauci was among a group of federal government health officials and health care workers who were vaccinated. He was joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, and front-line workers from the NIH.

Dr. Anthony Fauci received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 22, stating he hopes it serves as a symbol to Americans about the shot s safety and efficacy.
BETHESDA, Md. - Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, alongside other top Trump administration health officials.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins and several frontline health workers also received doses of Moderna’s vaccine, which was developed with the NIH.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who for many became the face of the federal government s COVID-19 pandemic response, rolled up his sleeve and didn t flinch as he got his first dose of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine Tuesday. Fauci, the nation s top infectious disease expert, was joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins and several NIH Clinical Center frontline health workers.
Fauci, who said he wanted to show he was extremely confident in the vaccine, pointed out that the new coronavirus vaccines have their roots in research performed by the scientists and grantees at the NIH. He flashed a thumbs-up once his shot was over.
