ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Tompkins County COVID-19 death toll rises to 12, after an additional six lives are lost at the Oak Hill Nursing Home.
The information released by the Tompkins County Health Department brings the total number of deaths at Oak Hill up to 11. New York State’s Health Department is leading contact investigations and testing. Public Health Director Frank Kruppa calls the deaths “heartbreaking,”.
The COVID outbreak at Oak Hill was first reported in November. At one point 39 residents and 13 staff tested positive for COVID-19. Tags:

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) Six residents at the Oak Hill Nursing Home have died from COVID-19.
The Tompkins County Health Department reports the deaths happened between December 12th and 21st. New York State’s Health Department is leading contact investigations and testing. Public Health Director Frank Kruppa calls the deaths “heartbreaking,” adding “we continue to see those at highest risk having the most adverse outcomes from COVID-19.”
With Christmas only days away, Kruppa’s once again strongly discouraging all non-essential gatherings and travel, and is encouraging the continued wearing of face masks, staying six feet apart, and monitoring yourself closely for symptoms.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Tompkins County Health Department says it needs nurses and contact tracers to help with COVID-19 response.
The department has two permanent positions open in the role of Community Health Nurse and several temporary positions in the role of Registered Professional Nurse.
Public Health Director Frank Kruppa says the department scaled up operations consistently since the beginning of the pandemic and the staff has gone above and beyond expectations.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County and the City of Ithaca are hosting two community forums as part of the Reimagining Public Safety Collaborative.
Thursday’s forum at 12:30 will focus on mental health emergencies and crisis response. Public Health Director Frank Kruppa will facilitate that forum.
Friday’s forum at 5:00 is a county and city official town hall Q&A. Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, County Administrator Jason Molino, IPD Chief Dennis Nayor, and Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne will all be participating in Friday’s forum.
