Santa Barbara County Public Health officials have previously noted that the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 have disproportionately affected communities of color since the beginning of the pandemic, and the most recent demographic data show that trend continuing.
The updated Community Data Dashboard includes a demographic breakdown of COVID-19-related cases, hospitalizations and deaths through the end of 2020.
While Hispanic/Latino residents make up 48% of the county’s population, they account for 57% of COVID-19 cases, 67% of hospitalizations, and 50% of COVID-related deaths through Dec. 31, 2020.
North County includes Santa Maria, Orcutt, Guadalupe, Sisquoc, Casmalia, Garey, Cuyama, and New Cuyama.
Mid County includes Lompoc, Vandenberg Village, Mission Hills, Los Alamos, Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez, Los Olivos and Ballard.
The federal prison complex in Lompoc is not included in these calculations, since its vaccination plan goes through the federal government and not the county.
South County includes Gaviota, Goleta, Isla Vista, Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland, Carpinteria, and unincorporated areas of the South Coast.
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has vaccine-related information on its COVID-19 page here: https://publichealthsbc.org.
The 2-1-1 call center is staffed with people who can answer questions about COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County, according to the Public Health Department.

Because of the continued delay, another Public Health vaccination clinic scheduled for Thursday at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center in Lompoc will not have enough doses to vaccinate community members with previously scheduled appointments, according to the county.
“All persons whose appointments have been canceled have been notified and will automatically be rescheduled for the same time and day next week,” the COVID-19 Joint Information Center announced on Wednesday. According to the county, 671 community members will have their appointments rescheduled.
Additionally, a vaccination clinic at Santa Barbara City College s Wake Campus scheduled for Friday also will be postponed, resulting in 522 rescheduled appointments. Community members with an appointment at the clinic for Friday have been notified and will automatically be rescheduled as well, the county said.
