Isle of Wight’s suicide prevention plan still ‘not fit for purpose’ believes councillor Cllr Lilley believes the suicide prevention plan on the Isle of Wight is ‘not fit for purpose’ despite recommendations from a group tasked with investigating the Suicide and Prevention Strategy Cllr Michael Lilley, a serving Isle of Wight councillor, a member of the IWC Health Scrutiny Committee, is raising awareness of the high level of suicide and suicide attempts on the Isle of Wight and how this issue has been heightened during Covid-19. In three of the last four years Cllr Lilley has been a member of the IW Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Health and Social Care and has continually and consistently raised the issue of high suicide and suicide rates on the Isle of Wight.

CAMPAIGNERS hope that forthcoming talks with NHS bosses about the future of Purbeck s paramedic car will help safeguard its future. Last month concerned residents told Swanage Town Council about the importance of the ambulance car to the local area. Many residents believe it is set to be withdrawn from service, despite assurances from Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (DCCG) that no decision has been made to date. Now, Debby Monkhouse, Swanage town councillor and one of the campaigners pushing to secure the future of the service, says a joint reply – from the DCCG and South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) – has offered up an engagement event to look at possible options.

Somerset councillors scrutinise impacts of two-unitary system on local services Somerset County Council has held a special scrutiny meeting this week to discuss the potential impact of a two-unitary system of local government on adult social care and children’s services. The Government is currently consulting with the public on proposals to replace Somerset’s existing five councils with a new unitary system. On Tuesday (March 16th), a Joint Scrutiny for Adults, Health, Children and Families was held by the council to discuss two expert reports analysing Stronger Somerset, the proposal favoured by Somerset’s district councils. This would replace Somerset’s existing five councils with two new unitary authorities and a separate children’s services alternative delivery model, a shared services company, and a combined authority for the area. So, replacing five existing councils with five new organisations.
