NEET 2021: Odisha urges NTA to open additional exam centres amid COVID-19

NEET 2021: Odisha urges NTA to open additional exam centres  |  Photo Credit: iStock Images Citing the difficulties that students might face while going to a few selected examination centres in Odisha to appear for all-India NEET-UG 2021 test amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government on Tuesday requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to set up one exam centre in each district of the State. Additional Chief Secretary Health & Family Welfare P K Mohapatra in a letter addressed to Director General of NTA Vineet Joshi and has requested to consider setting up one examination centre for NEET-UG 2021 in each district of the State.

At a programme to onboard Geetanjali Kirloskar as Head of CSR committee under Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education Department, K Sudhakar, Minister for Health and Medical Education, said, “We are involving corporates in health sector during the Covid times, this will help in enhancing public healthcare and overall development of health services.” Corporates are being requested to come forward to develop Primary Health Centres (PHCs). “We have requested them to upgrade the existing ones. Geetanjali Kirloskar’s vast experience as entrepreneur and philanthropist will help the State leverage CSR initiatives for upgrading PHCs,” he added.

Seven established Cyclone Warning Centers covering the east & west coasts of India

Coastal strip of responsibility extends upto 75 km from the coast line.  India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed state of art tools for cyclone warning services, and has demonstrated its capability to provide early warning for Cyclones with high precision and has earned accolades globally and nationally for very effective state of art early warning system for monitoring and prediction of cyclones. The cyclone forecast accuracy has significantly improved in recent years as has been demonstrated during cyclones Phailin (2013), Hudhud (2014), Vardah (2016), Titli (2018), Fani& Bulbul (2019) and Amphan, Nisarga&Nivar (2020). During recent years, the loss of life due to cyclone has been drastically reduced being limited to double digit figures.
