Most students in Fort Frances will not return to school today
The Northwestern Health Unit has ordered Fort Frances area schools to remain closed to in-person learning for two weeks after a spike in new COVID-19 cases.

The Northwestern Health Unit has ordered many Fort Frances-area schools to remain closed to in-person learning for two weeks after a spike in new COVID-19 cases.

Due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in Fort Frances this weekend, and in collaboration with School Board partners, the Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit, Dr.Kit Young-Hoon, is recommending that Fort Frances schools delay in person learning for an additional two week period, January 11-15 and January 18-22..
• Delay the provision of in-person teaching or instructions to students who attend school in the municipality of Fort Frances until at least January 25, 2021
• Delay the provision of in-person teaching or instructions to students who attend schools where most of the staff are residents of Fort Frances, until at least January 25, 2021

The Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit is commending our region for helping limit the spread of COVID-19.
Even though the fight against COVID-19 isn’t over yet, Dr. Kit Young Hoon says the public’s actions in following public health measures are a big part of keeping our cases low.
In an open letter, Young Hoon stresses public safety remains their top priority.
While she’s encouraged to see very few cases in our catchment area, Young Hoon says it’s no time to let our guard down.
