The Scottish Lib Dems asked a Holyrood question about the number of visits Christina McKelvie made to care homes since March 2020. The response read: “The Minister for Older People has made no physical or virtual visits to care homes since March 2020.” They also asked for meetings she had with staff, residents or their relatives, representatives of industry body Scottish Care or groups who were representing families. The Scottish Government is on course to meet its target to vaccinate all care home residents, frontline health workers and over 80s by today, says Jeane Freeman. The Health Secretary says that “somewhere between 23,000 and 25,000 individuals” still need vaccinated today to ensure the government meets its target. More than 45,000 people were given their first dose of the vaccine on Wednesday, taking the overall total up to 694,347. Just over 9,000 people have been given their second dose of the vaccine. Ms Freeman said: “Yesterday we had 98% of care home residents who had been vaccinated, 92% of residents in all other adult care homes, 90% of our over 80s – that number will grow – and we’ve also got 38% of 75 to 79-year-olds vaccinated, as of yesterday.”

Covid in Scotland: Edinburgh and Aberdeen vaccine centres open

Scots are now being given jags at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre THE second phase of Scotland’s coronavirus vaccination programme has begun with the opening of two new mass inoculation centres. The facilities at Aberdeen s P&J Live venue and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) will be able to give jags to an extra 27,000 people per week. NHS staff spent last week vaccinating each other as part of their inductions at the centres. The EICC will have capacity to vaccinate more than 21,000 people a week at 45 stations, while the Aberdeen site will start with 20 booths to accommodate around 6000 people weekly.

Scottish government approves new Monklands hospital site
