The Department of Health said Duque, a senior citizen, got the CoronaVac jab developed by Chinese firm Sinovac Biotech. “As I receive my dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today, I invite everyone to do the same, and choose to be protected,” Duque was quoted as saying. “Let us all take part in protecting public health, and let us be in unison in spreading one message: that vaccines are safe, and vaccines are effective.” The Food and Drug Administration eventually allowed the use of the Chinese-made vaccine on the elderly amid a shortage of AstraZeneca doses.

At least 500,000 doses of Sinovac’s CoronaVac arrived in Pasay City yesterday, bringing the Philippines’ total number of vaccines to 3,525,600.
The doses arrived from Beijing at 5:16 pm on board Philippine Airlines flight PR359. Welcoming the shipment were vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III. The Philippine government has bought around 25 million doses of CoronaVac, most of which will arrive in the country in the latter part of the year. The first batch of Sinovac’s jabs arrived on March 29 and April 11. There will be 500,000 more doses that are expected to arrive on April 29.

He received a shot of CoronaVac made by Chinese manufacturer Sinovac.
Duque was not able to receive his shots during the first few weeks of the vaccination program in March because the Food And Drug Administration previously prohibited its use on people aged 60 and above. But this month, it was given the go-signal as long as the senior citizen undergoes health evaluation prior to vaccination.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 22) The latest batch of the government-purchased Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines arrived in the country on Thursday.
The additional 500,000 doses arrived from Beijing, China at 5:16 p.m. through a Philippine Airlines flight, the flag carrier confirmed.
The shipment was welcomed by some government officials, including vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
