Philippines begins legally rolling out first COVID-19 vaccines

The Philippine government on Monday, March 1, started distributing the first shots of a coronavirus vaccine, setting off an unprecedented and ambitious effort to inoculate at least 50 million people by the end of 2021.
At 9:40 am, the first COVID-19 vaccine in the country was legally administered by nurse Charleuck Santos to Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, director of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (PGH), one of the few coronavirus-designated hospitals in the country.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras,” Dr. Eileen Aniceto became the first person at the Lung Center to be vaccinated against the disease on Monday when Health Secretary Francisco Duque III gave her a shot of Sinovac s CoronaVac vaccine. Speaking to the press afterwards, Aniceto said that though at first she was undecided about which vaccine to get, she trusts the Food and Drug Administration, which approved Sinovac for use.

Jakarta [Philippines], March 2 (ANI): Amid public resistance against the Chinese developed COVID-19vaccine, the Philippines began its vaccination drive against coronavirus on Monday.
The Philippine General Hospital s Physicians Association has said that Chinese Sinovac had a sweeping disapproval rate of 95 per cent among hospital staff, while an earlier survey had found 94 per cent were willing to take either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca jab, South China Morning Post reported.
China has donated 6,00,000 Sinovac coronavirus vaccine doses, which arrived in the country on Sunday.
The head of the top state hospital received the first shot of the vaccine. After his jab, Gerardo Legazpi, the director of Philippine General Hospital, appealed to colleagues and the public to separate the vaccine from our politics .
