The United States government has successfully delivered a total of 3,240,850 doses of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccines to its longest treaty ally in Asia, the Philippines, as part of its worldwide effort to fight the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic.

Shipped on July 16 and 17, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine delivery was provided directly to the Philippines via the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility, a global initiative to support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
This is the first time the Philippines has received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a safe, trusted, and easy-to-store shot widely used in the United States.

Published July 17, 2021 10:21am With Cagayan de Oro City under the strictest measure, enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), Deputy Speaker and Cagayan de Oro City Representative Rufus Rodriguez on Friday asked President Rodrigo Duterte to extend financial assistance to affected families. “Now under ECQ, people are required to stay home, will not be able to work and they will not have income to purchase food and other basic necessities for their families for the next two weeks from July 16 to July 31,” Rodriguez said in a letter to Duterte. “In view of the same, may I request for cash assistance of P6,000 for each family in Cagayan de Oro since it is already under ECQ,” he wrote.

The U.S. has begun to ship more than three million COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines. The State Department confirmed the first half of the Johnson and Johnson shipment arrived in the county on Friday.
This comes as much of Southeast Asia has experienced a spike in infections as the new COVID-19 variant spread throughout the region. So far, the Philippines has administered more than 13 million doses, which has accounted for about six percent of its population.
