Editorial: On the right track

SunStar Editorial-Cebu-tourism June 04, 2021 THE recent lifting of travel restrictions in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus bubble means residents in Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces are now allowed to undertake point-to-point leisure travel to areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). This is covered by Resolution 118-A that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases issued on Monday, May 31, 2021. This should be a boon to the ailing local tourism industry, which has suffered because of the absence of foreign visitors since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in March last year. “Allowing leisure travel for all ages from the NCR Plus bubble to MGCQ areas will surely help local tourism back on track towards recovery,” said Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

Duque: Not yet time to drop face shields due to low COVID-19 vaccine coverage

Duque thumbs down suggestion to drop face shields

SunStar File June 03, 2021 DEPARTMENT of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Thursday, June 3, 2021, that it is not yet the right time to remove the protocol requiring the people to wear face shields aside from face masks in public places. He cited the low vaccination rate, especially for the second dose, in the country. “Okay mungkahi ni Mayor Isko kung malaki na vaccination coverage natin. Hindi pa pwedeng tanggalin ang face shield policy for now when our (second) dose vaccination coverage is a little over 2.0 percent due to still inadequate vaccine supply,” he said. Duque cited studies showing that wearing a face shield provides another layer of protection from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), aside from face masks and physical distancing.
