Forced to pay thousands for surgery: Waiting lists mean there s only one option

Faced with a 12 to 18-month wait for a hip replacement on the NHS, housewife Barbara Price decided to do something she had never done before she went private. The fact that the government has met the Pay Review Body recommendation only shows how inadequate that body is. All the unions have condemned the award. Unison, the largest health trade union, will be asking members if they accept the award or reject it and are prepared to take action up to and including strike action. GMB will be consulting members with a reject recommendation.
