Chinese vaccine nearly 75pc effective: Dr Faisal

Top Story February 9, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan on Monday announced that China’s CanSinoBio COVID-19 vaccine is nearly 75% effective against the virus in Pakistan. Taking to Twitter, the special assistant said that according to the vaccine’s phase-three trials data, it has turned out to be 74.8% effective against the virus, while it also showed 100% effectiveness in preventing severe disease. Further citing the Independent Data Monitoring Committee’s report, he said that in multiple countries, the vaccine was 65.7% and 90.98% effective in preventing symptomatic cases and severe diseases, respectively. The SAPM said that the IDMC did not report any “serious safety concerns” and that the data included as many as 30,000 participants and 101 people who had tested positive for coronavirus. Moreover, the Independent Data Monitoring Committee (IDMC) has released analysis of CanSinoBio which showed that in Pakistan there was 74.48pc efficacy at preventing symptomatic cases and 100pc at preventing severe disease. However, international data of five countries showed 65.7pc efficacy at preventing symptomatic cases and 90.98pc at preventing severe disease. China’s CanSino vaccine is 74.8% effective in preventing COVID-19, Special Assistant to the PM for Health Dr Faisal Sultan said late Monday. Dr Sultan said that the vaccine proved 100% effective at preventing severe diseases in the group of volunteers from Pakistan.
