Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s COVID-19 tally
rose to 1,536 after five imported cases were reported on January 15, according
to the National Steering Committee for
COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
The latest patients include
a 23-year-old Vietnamese woman returning from Canada and a 61-year-old US expert. Both were sent to quarantine right upon their arrival in HCM City
and are now being treated at
land border gates and undergoing quarantine in military establishments will be exempted from
quarantine fees, Deputy Prime Minister
Vu Duc Dam said on January 15.
At a meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Dam, who is also head of the committee, noted that as of January 15, Vietnam has recorded 1,536 COVID-19 cases, including 876 imported and 660 community infections.
Due to the appearance of new variants of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, Vietnam has limited inbound flights, the Deputy PM said.
He underlined the need to extend the concentrated quarantine period to more than 14 days for those who entering Vietnam from countries and territories that have reported new SARS-CoV-2 variants.
The national medical council officially made its debut at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 15, which has been regarded as a milestone of the domestic health care sector.

Vietnam negotiates with 4 countries for COVID-19 vaccine
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health is negotiating with the UK, the US, Russia and China on COVID-19 vaccines, said Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong during a press conference of the Government on January 4.

The latest results showed that the Ministry of Health had negotiated and signed with the British company AstraZeneca, ensuring to inject 15 million people with 30 million doses. Particularly with the Russian vaccine, the Ministry of Health is negotiating to be able to produce the vaccine under Russian technology transfer at a company affiliated to the Ministry of Health.
