Ohio COVID-19 maps: Case rate that determines when mask mandate expires rises

The number Ohio is using to determine if all coronavirus health orders will be lifted increased again this week. This week, the statewide average number of cases per capita during the previous two weeks, also known as incidence rate, was 183.7 per 100,000 residents. Last week, the figure was 167.1 per 100,000 residents, and the previous week, it was 146.9 per 100,000 residents. The number is updated weekly on Thursdays. Case incidence is a measure of how many cases there are in each county, adjusted for population. The Ohio Department of Health has said the information can help people understand the severity of COVID-19 transmission by county.

INDIANAPOLIS — Why should young people, who are at low risk themselves of getting seriously ill or dying of COVID-19, get vaccinated? Ask the Millennials and Gen Z’ers who are already getting the vaccine themselves and, well, they’ll tell you pretty much the same thing. “We know so many people who are very thankful and excited to protect themselves and others. Few negative or undecided persons. The sooner we are all protected, the sooner get back to normal,” said Grace Caswell, an under-40 who works with the local St. Martin’s Healthcare organization. She was fully vaccinated earlier this year but her husband recently signed up for his first shot, too.
