JOHESU calls for probe of hearing on MDCN re-enactment bill

Share The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has called on the leadership of the National Assembly to probe the February 1 public hearing conducted by the Senate Committee on Health, on the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill. Besides, JOHESU called on the Senate President, Ahmad Lawal, to reorganise the Senate Committee on Health subsequently “to prevent vindictive purposelessness associated with the tendencies of the NMA hierarchy as epitomized by Dr. Oloriegbe.” A statement signed by the Chairman of JOHESU and National President of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Comrade Josiah Biobelemoye, said in respect of the now controversial hearing, “JOHESU therefore insists that the Senate must probe the February 1, 2021 hearing and reorganise the Senate Committee on Health.”

Nurses protest over half salary in Ondo

Share The Ondo State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), on Tuesday, protested and disrupted the meeting of the leadership of the union over the payment of half salary by the state government. The angry nurses who passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of their union over their refusal to call for strike action, saying the leaders had compromised and expressed their readiness to pull out of the Joint Health Workers Union. The nurses armed with placards of various inscriptions, such as ‘Represent us well or leave,’ ‘We move out of JOHESU,’ ‘Serve us well to serve the Community well. A hungry man is an angry man,’ ‘Nurses have the largest number in the health sector. We can stand alone.’ demanded for strike action over payment of 50 per cent salary for the month of November 2020.

Ondo nurses attack labour leaders for accepting 50 per cent salaries

Daily Post Nigeria Published Nurses within the service of the Ondo State Government on Tuesday lashed out at labour leaders in the state for allegedly selling out over the decision the state government to pay 50 per cent salary to them. The angry nurses who stormed and disrupted the meeting of the State Executive Committee of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, stated that the labour leaders ought to have directed it members to process on strike. With the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye, booed and mobbed out of the meeting, the aggrieved nurses emphasized that their leaders no longer fight for their interest.

Gunmen Abduct Taraba NLC Chairman

By Wole Ayodele The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State, Comrade Peter Jediel, has been abducted by gunmen. Jediel was abducted at about 1.00am on Sunday at his residence in Sunkani, headquarters of Ardo-Kola local government area. Besides Jediel, another resident of the town, Alhaji Bello Kantoma, was equally abducted by the gunmen at his Ungwar Jauro Manu area of Sunkani. This is coming barely two weeks after the Chairman of Ardo-Kola local government, Mr Salihu Dovo, was equally abducted and later killed by his abductors who dumped his corpse in the bush. Younger brother to the NLC boss, Boniface Stephen, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the gunmen invaded the residence of Jediel in a very large number and shot sporadically to scare residents of the area before whisking him away.
