Every person who wants a coronavirus vaccine who lives in a skilled nursing facility in Michigan has had the chance to get at least a first dose, said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the state s chief medical executive, in written testimony Tuesday submitted to the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. As of Jan. 28, 104,209 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been injected into the arms of residents and staff, she said. And by the end of February, Khaldun said she expects all of the staff and residents at the state s 4,400 long-term care facilities, which include nursing homes, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities as well as adult foster care homes and homes for the aged, will have had a chance to get at least a first dose.

SALT LAKE CITY Nearly 26,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are sitting on shelves at federally contracted pharmacies throughout Utah. “They have too much vaccine. More than they need,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said during his first monthly PBS Utah news conference on Thursday. He said the state is working to “get the extra doses back.” Those pharmacies include CVS, Walgreens and Managed Health Care Associates Inc., and they have partnered with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to distribute COVID-19 vaccines at long-term health care facilities across the country.

Utah governor says more COVID-19 vaccine soon to be available to Utahns

Steve Griffin, Deseret News SALT LAKE CITY Nearly 26,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are sitting on shelves at federally contracted pharmacies throughout Utah as the state matched its deadliest day of the pandemic Thursday. Another 30 lives have been claimed by COVID-19, three of them prior to Dec. 31, according to the Utah Department of Health, which updates the numbers daily. In all, 1,547 people in Utah have died from the disease. The 30 new deaths ties the record for the most daily deaths that were reported on Dec. 17. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said, “Our highest priority is to protect those most vulnerable.” He wants vaccines to get in the arms of people who need it most and are at highest risk of dying from a COVID-19 infection. During the governor’s first monthly PBS Utah news conference on Thursday, Cox said he will make sure every available dose gets used starting with the excess on pharmacy shelves.
