India-Wide Vaccine Dry Run Today as Govt Plans to Start Inoculation Drive Next Week

The dry run is aimed at equipping the entire administration and management of vaccine supply, storage and logistics, including cold chain management, the Union Health Ministry has said.

After successfully concluding the coronavirus vaccination dry run in four states, a similar mega-drill will be conducted in all states and union territories on Saturday.
Some states will also include districts that are situated in difficult terrain/have poor logistical support, while Maharashtra and Kerala are likely to schedule the dry run in major cities other than their capital.
Regarding the dry run to be held, for each of the three session sites, the medical officer in charge will identify 25 test beneficiaries (healthcare workers).
The states and UTs have been asked to ensure that the data of these beneficiaries is uploaded in Co-WIN. These beneficiaries will also be available at the session site for the dry run. The states and UTs shall prepare the facilities and users to be created on Co-WIN application including uploading the data of Health Care Worker (HCW) beneficiaries, the ministry stated.
Early COVID-19 Cases Begin to Increase
New Positive Cases of COVID-19 have been identified in a Health Care Worker and an area youth in Prowers County as of May 12, 2020.
This brings the total of cases in the county to nine. None have required hospitalization and prior cases have either been listed as isolated or quarantined until their cases have been updated.
The CDPHE website provides a daily summation of cases in the state with only four counties not listing any contagion as of May 12th. The website is updated daily at 4pm.
These are the current regional cases that have been noted for the southeast Colorado region: Baca-12, Bent-1, Cheyenne-5, Crowley-39, Kiowa-0, Kit Carson-25, Las Animas-4 and Otero-10.

The objective of the Dry Run for COVID-19 vaccine introduction is to assess operational feasibility in the use of Co-WIN application in the field environment, to test the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges and guide the way forward prior to actual implementation. This is also expected to give confidence to programme managers at various levels.
