WORKERS are suffering an epidemic of mental ill-health due to the impact of Covid-19, a Unite survey reveals.
The union says the data shows there is a clear link between the increase in stress and the pandemic, and is calling on employers and regulators to help prevent the crisis continuing as lockdown eases.
The health and safety-focused survey of 1,400 Unite reps from all sectors of the economy finds that 83 per cent are dealing with an increase in members reporting mental-health-related problems.
Mental health issues also came top of workers’ concerns during a similar survey last year, but there has been an 18-point increase over the past 12 months.

An investigation has been launched by the UK offshore safety regulator after a leak of produced water activated gas detectors on Apache North Sea’s Forties Charlie platform.
The incident occurred on 13 April.
Apache said produced water came into contact with a fixed gas detector on the platform, which triggered an alarm on the fire and gas console.

A North Sea icon
The FPSO is expected to be taken off station and handed back to vessel owner Teekay Corporation in 2022, BP said.
