Potentially fatal diet pills seized in Co Tipperary Updated / Monday, 1 Feb 2021 16:13 Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Correspondent A multi-agency investigation has led to the closure of an online business in Tipperary selling so-called diet pills. The potentially fatal chemical 2,4- Dinitrophenol (DNP) is described by the Food Safety Authority as a highly toxic industrial chemical . The chemical is used as a fertiliser, wood preservative and even as a pesticide. Several online sources sell pills containing DNP, which people take to lose weight. But there have been numerous fatalities internationally after taking the chemical. The Health Service Executive, Health Products Regulatory Authority, gardaí and the Food Safety Authority conducted a joint operation investigating the online seller of the pills.
