Parkinson s cases to double, triple by 2030

Parkinson’s disease ( PD) which is expected to rise 200-300 pc by 2030, said Health & Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar. Addressing officials and reporters at a programme recently, he said that 350-400 people are being affected over 1 lakh population in India. This will increase to 200-300 pc by 2030. Around 1 per cent of the total population will be affected by this disease. The symposium by KCL and PRAI will assist the research work on this, he said. NIMHANS has been recognised for its work on Neuro Degenerative diseases. It will undertake research work on Parkinson’s Disease in collaboration with other centres of PRAI.

Vaccination for school staff on priority

Picture for representational purpose only All teaching and non-teaching staff of all government, aided and unaided schools will be vaccinated on priority as a safety measure, said Health & Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Thursday. He said that schools have to reopen sooner or later as children cannot rely on online classes forever. “Online classes may impact the psychological health of the children. Therefore, we will have a wide consultation process before arriving at any decision. Experts’ opinions will be considered for making such decisions,” he said.
