LANSING, Mich. New testimony from the appointee for the Michigan top health office suggests the former director had a disagreement with the governor before resigning.
Republicans called for transparency and an investigation of a $155,000 payout to Robert Gordon following his resignation. While Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said Gordon resigned voluntarily, emails he sent the evening before he stepped down show he was still scheduling meetings.
Gordon s emails, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, appear to show he intended to stay in his role as director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, asking the managing principal of Health Management Associates in one email to schedule a meeting the next day or the next week the night before he resigned.

A union-linked investment group is demanding answers from HCA Healthcare after an analysis uncovered an alleged decade-long pattern of excessive emergency department admissions that may have netted well over $1 billion.
CtW Investment Group cited an SEIU analysis that found the investor-owned hospital chain admits far more Medicare patients who visit its emergency departments than the national average. The union estimates the practice may have netted HCA excess Medicare payments of $1.1 billion over the past five years and $1.6 billion since 2009.
CtW said it is going public with the findings after HCA didn t respond to its October 2020 letter imploring the company to hire outside experts to investigate the issue, undertake a board-level review to ensure managers don t benefit financially from such practices and report back to shareholders no later than Nov. 30, 2020. HomeTown Health (HTH) is pleased to announce that nineteen Georgia Rural Hospitals have completed their required state board training through the HomeTown Health Board & Leadership Training Program.
In 2018, the
Georgia General Assembly implemented a training requirement for rural hospital executives, board members, and hospital authority members. The legislation, HB 769, delegated responsibility for the creation of training standards, approval of vendors, and monitoring of compliance to the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center (GRHIC).
Hospitals subject to the training requirements must complete an approved board training program by GRHIC, one of which was offered by
