New testimony from the appointee for the Michigan top health office suggests the former director had a disagreement with the governor before resigning. Republicans called for transparency and an investigation of a $155,000 payout to Robert Gordon following his resignation. While Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said Gordon resigned voluntarily, emails he sent the evening before he stepped down show he was still scheduling meetings. Gordon s emails, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, appear to show he intended to stay in his role as director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, asking the managing principal of Health Management Associates in one email to schedule a meeting the next day or the next week the night before he resigned.

CtW Investment Group cited an SEIU analysis that found the investor-owned hospital chain admits far more Medicare patients who visit its emergency departments than the national average. The union estimates the practice may have netted HCA excess Medicare payments of $1.1 billion over the past five years and $1.6 billion since 2009. In 2018, the Georgia General Assembly implemented a training requirement for rural hospital executives, board members, and hospital authority members.
