Jan. 23 TOPEKA A Kansas lawmaker accused of abusive behavior toward women will receive an informal letter of warning, after a bipartisan House panel voted Friday to dismiss a complaint filed against him.
The letter to Wyandotte Rep. Aaron Coleman is a mild rebuke compared to other options available to the committee, which included asking the full House to remove him.
Coleman, 20, who ran as a Democrat but has left the party, will remain in the House and won t be expelled or even formally reprimanded after Democrats alleged a pattern of inappropriate behavior began as a teenager and continued into the past year.

The Kansas House Select Investigating Committee on Friday dismissed the complaint filed against Rep. Aaron Coleman, 37th District.
The committee stated that Rep. Coleman, who represents the Turner area of Kansas City, Kansas, will be given an informal letter of warning and an admonishment. He also will be given recommendations from the committee.
Rep. Coleman, a progressive who is not affiliated with a party, faced several questions from committee members.
He apologized during the hearing. He said that he apologized for what he said and also for the impact toward the persons to whom they were directed. He said that prior to becoming a legislator, he had not always lived up to his ideals of treating others with dignity and respect. He said that if his words and actions don’t match his ideals in the future, this committee could hold him accountable in the future.

A formal compliant filed in the House about State Rep. Aaron Coleman will kick off a bipartisan investigation that will culminate in a recommendation and vote about his future in the Legislature. A two-thirds majority would be necessary to oust Coleman, of Kansas City, Kansas, who was sworn in on Monday. “He is a danger to women, said Minority Leader Tom Sawyer in a statement. “His removal is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of legislators and Capitol staff.”
