Myanmar has raised objection over The Gambia s eligibility in filing a genocide case with the International Court of Justice a move that could delay justice for the Rohingya minority.
The Gambia, on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Conference, filed the case in November 2019, alleging that Myanmar s atrocities against the Rohingyas in the Rakhine state violate the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The objection was submitted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the top UN Court, on January 20, 2021, more than a week before the military took control of Myanmar, when Aung San Suu Kyi was de facto leader of the Southeast Asian country.

The entire Pakistan nation in particular and the majority of the Muslims across the world are united to support the cause of Kashmiri people for the right of self-determination as was envisaged in the United Nations Security Council Resolutions passed over seven decades ago.
It was India that took the issue to the world body. Since then the world community has not done anything in this context leaving the Kashmiri people to continue to suffer at the hands of the occupying Indian armed forces.

When Saudi Arabia pressed Pakistan last August to repay early a US$3 billion soft loan, Riyadh’s demand caught Islamabad’s rulers by surprise.
Islamabad quickly dispatched its current army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Riyadh to defuse the tensions, but the mission failed as Saudi officials stood firm on their early repayment demand. Riyadh also froze a $3.2 billion oil credit facility with Islamabad.
Saudi Arabia applied the squeeze soon after Pakistan’s foreign minister criticized the kingdom for its perceived stalling on convening an Organization of Islamic Conference’s (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting on Kashmir, where Pakistan is locked in a conflict with India.

IT was on this day today more than seven decades ago that the Indian government in connivance with Dogra Raj seized the Jammu and Kashmir valley, and the occupation has continued to date. Jan 26 is celebrated as the ‘Republic Day’ in India when the fact is that it is a Black Day which reminds of the time when the fate of hapless Kashmiris was sealed by the occupying Indian forces.
Millions, if not billions, have embraced martyrdom for independence. What is more worrying is nothing else but the question of self-determination, something that has been proclaimed by the United Nations. Still the situation is deteriorating day by day as there were 229 killings in the valley in the first half of 2020 alone.
