Structural crack on Hernando de Soto M bridge closes all I-40 lanes, Mississippi River boat traffic Laura Testino and Daniel Connolly, Memphis Commercial Appeal A structural crack has been identified on the Hernando de Soto M bridge, indefinitely closing all lanes of Interstate 40 along the bridge, as well as halting boat traffic in the area on the Mississippi River.  A consultant performing a routine inspection of the bridge located the crack around 2 p.m. Tuesday, said Dave Parker, public information officer for the Arkansas Department of Transportation. The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the crack was located on the bottom side of the bridge truss, which IDrive Arkansas described as a support beam.

(KAIT) - For the first time in months, an update was given on the status of the future I-57. The proposed interstate would connect Highway 67 from Walnut Ridge to the Missouri state line, which would be just over 40 miles. Officials from the Arkansas Department of Transportation met with dozens of city and county officials Friday morning at Williams Baptist University. ArDOT officials say the planning period for the future I-57 should be over by late 2022. This after they recently began an environmental study of three proposed routes: one utilizing much of the existing Highway 67, one creating a new central location, and the other running a new location, east of the Black River.

Semi blown over by strong winds on I-40 in Van Buren

Updated: 10:19 PM CDT May 3, 2021 VAN BUREN, Ark. Strong winds have blown a semi on its side Monday night eastbound on I-40 near exit 7 in Van Buren.  Emergency crews are now on the interstate alerting drivers of the wreck.  Strong storms with winds up to 90 mph have struck Crawford County tonight.  Storms are expected to last until 2 p.m.  Stick with the 5NEWS Weather Team. Routine inspections of two Highway 64 Arkansas River Bridges in northwest Arkansas means temporary lane closures in Fort Smith and Van Buren, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.  Weather permitting, crews will close the outside eastbound lane followed by the outside westbound lane as follows: Mon. May 3 – Tues. May 4 | 9a-3p | Hwy 64 between Fort Smith and Oklahoma Wed. May 5 – Thurs. May 6 | 7:30a-3p | Hwy 64 between Fort Smith and Van Buren Traffic will be controlled by traffic cones and signage. ArDOT to begin bridge rehab projects The Arkansas Department of Transportation will begin rehabilitating two bridges in Randolph and Lawrence Counties. Weather permitting, work will begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, on the following bridges: Highway 63/Spring River Bridge south of Ravenden Highway 67/Gar Slough Bridge between Reyno and Biggers According to a Friday news release from ArDOT, crews will “rehabilitate the bridge pavement and will continue 24 hours daily until work is completed.” Motorists should expect temporary lane closures and obey all traffic signals and signs.
