Soham man completes million steps for Arthur Rank Hospice

Published: 4:45 PM April 6, 2021    George Ginn (far right), a former Soham town councillor, reached one million steps as part of his challenge to raise funds for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. - Credit: Facebook/Soham Town Council A man who completed one million steps in under 100 days for charity said he is “thrilled to bits” with the support he received to conquer the feat.  George Ginn, 86, decided to take on the challenge where he would walk from his hometown of Soham and Fordham between January 11 to April 20 for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.  Having said last month he was “way ahead of schedule”, George reached the million-step mark on Good Friday (April 2) as he walked his usual route.

Published: 4:57 PM March 17, 2021    Updated: 4:59 PM March 17, 2021 George Ginn (pictured) said he is way ahead of schedule as he aims to reach one million steps inside 100 days for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. - Credit: Arthur Rank Hospice Charity/George Ginn An 86-year-old man who is walking 100 million steps in 100 days said he is already “way ahead of schedule” as he continues to smash his charity challenge.  George Ginn of Soham has already completed over 793,000 steps inside 65 days by walking around five miles a day for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.  “I usually walk a five-mile route and when I get home, if I do something in the garden or walk to the shop, that’s put another 3,000 steps on the stepper,” he said.

Help at Hand’ app will help Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s patients access practical support available in local community  | Updated: 11:16, 12 March 2021 A hospice charity has launched a new app to help patients with everyday support as well as offering information on help groups,exercise and helplines. The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which runs the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech, is the first hospice to adopt the Help at Hand’ app, which functions like a digital directory offering social prescribing. It can be accessed via mobile phone, device or computer and provides a safe, quick and efficient way to signpost hospice users – patients, family and friends - to the community organisations and groups they need most.
