YEREVAN (Azatutyun.am) Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutiunyan met on Tuesday with the commander of Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh to discuss the continuing military standoff on Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan.
Lieutenant-General Rustam Muradov participated in a series of talks held by Armenian and Azerbaijani military officials after Azerbaijani troops reportedly crossed several sections of the border two weeks ago. The talks proved fruitless, with Armenia continuing to accuse Azerbaijan of occupying Armenian territory.

An Armenian soldier was shot dead on Tuesday in what authorities in Yerevan described as a skirmish with Azerbaijani forces that crossed into Armenia.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said the incident occurred at one of the contested portions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border where troops from the two countries have been locked in a tense standoff for the last two weeks.
A ministry statement said Azerbaijani troops opened fire on an Armenian army unit deployed in Gegharkunik province, causing the latter to retaliate. It said Armenian Sergeant G. Khurshudian died in the exchange of gunfire.

EREVAN, May 25. /TASS/. One Armenian serviceman was mortally wounded in a skirmish at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Gegharkunik Province, Armenian Defense Ministry announced Tuesday. An Armenian Armed Forces volunteer, Junior Sergeant V. Khurshudian was mortally wounded in a skirmish that broke out after the enemy opened fire in the border district of Verin Shorzha in the Gegharkunik Province, the Defense Ministry said.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported a fire contact, registered near the settlement of Verin Shorzha at about 13:20 Moscow time, adding that the enemy has fired at the Armenian positions.
