The parliamnetary groups of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) have issued a call upon the international community for recognizing and condemning the 1988 Armenian pogrom in Sumgait and the Azerbaijani authorities’ policy of Armenophobia.
In a statement released on the 33rd anniversary of the tragic events, the lawmakers of Artsakh Democratic Party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D), Justice, United Fatherland and Free Fatherland parties cited also the second Karabakh war as the continuation of the aggression and human treatment.
“The Sumgait massacre was the Azerbaijani authorities’ response to the campaign launched in 1988 for the Artsakh Armenians’ freedom and self-determination.
“The civilians of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonamous Region were also targeted in the large-scale Azerbaijani aggression. It found a more inhuman manifestation during the new war unleashed by Azerbaijan in the autumn of 2020.
