Armenian HRD Calls on Pashinyan s Government to Protect Its Citizens
Armenian Human Rights Defender (HRD) Arman Tatoyan, in a statement released today, called on the Armenian government to fulfill its constitutional obligation to protect the security of its citizens. The Government of the Republic of Armenia is obliged to take active steps to guarantee the rights of the entire population of the Republic of Armenia, writes Tatoyan.
The HRD’s statement follows yesterday’s killing of an Armenian soldier along the border with Azerbaijan in Armenia’s Gegharkunik province.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense says the soldier was killed by Azerbaijani gunfire. Azerbaijani authorities say the Armenian soldier, Sergeant V. Khurshudyan, was killed in an accident.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian on Thursday admitted that Armenia and Azerbaijan are close to signing a Russian-brokered agreement on the demarcation of their border but denied a prominent critic’s claims that it will be heavily tilted in favor of Baku.
Mikael Minasian, a former Armenian ambassador to the Vatican, publicized on Wednesday what he described as a copy of the first page of a draft joint statement by Pashinian and the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia.
The opening paragraph of the hitherto unknown document calls for the creation of an Armenian-Azerbaijani commission on border delimitation and demarcation. The rest of the page posted by Minasian on Facebook is blacked out.

Armenian Human Rights Defender’s office representatives, including a doctor, with the instruction of the Ombudsman visited the three prisoners of war who returned from Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
