This spring, VERANDA partnered with the Savannah College of Art and Design to reimagine outdoor living in the most beautiful ways as a part of Design U. With guidance from SCAD Vice President for Industry Relations Khoi Vo, we conducted an elective course project pairing SCAD students specializing in interior design, fibers, furniture design, design for sustainability, and preservation design at the masters and bachelor of arts levels with leading landscape architects and designers Kathryn Herman, Anna Hoffman, Wambui Ippolito, and Scott Shrader to design an outdoor living space that answered the question, How can gardens save us? We welcome you to explore their imaginations via renderings and project descriptions below.

A new sandwich on the Disneyland menu is not for the budget-conscious tourist:
Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE: DIS) theme park plans to unveil a panini that will cost $100.
What Happened: According to a report in the Orange County Register, the rather expensive Pym-ini Sandwich will be served beginning June 4 when the Avengers Campus opens at Disney California Adventure. The sandwich is part of the fare at the Pym Test Kitchen, which will serve meals that have either been shrunken or greatly expanded.
Needless to say, the Pym-ini Sandwich falls into the category of expanded foods. The meal consists of salami, rosemary ham, provolone and sun-dried tomato spread on toasted focaccia, and is served with marinara dipping sauce and an arugula salad.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council took a step towards making the city’s outdoor dining program permanent. The votes were nearly unanimous to extend the mayor’s 2020 initiative that expanded outdoor dining for LA restaurants onto adjacent sidewalks, streets, and parking lots.
LA mayor Eric Garcetti introduced LA Al Fresco almost one year ago, which coincided with the reopening of in-house dining in LA with a streamlined approval process. The move towards expanding outdoor spaces was a welcome one after restaurants were forced to utilize takeout and delivery-only during the initial COVID-19 shelter-in-place.
