ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) has launched its digital forensic arm “G5 Internet Observatory (G5iO)”.
The launch was done at the sidelines of the webinar “Mapping Disinformation in the Digital Age” on May 19.
As a digital arm of IPRI, the G5 Internet Observatory will map the digital space, track disinformation including hateful content, and collaborate with global think tanks & social media companies to make social media a safer and more productive platform for engagement.
The webinar was an attempt to explore trends of disinformation and discuss the policy-making designed to combat it.

Islamabad: As Pakistan’s parliament discussed the demand by a right-wing party to consider the expulsion of the French envoy, the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) called off protests on Tuesday.
The House also adopted a motion to form a special committee to discuss the resolution. The National Assembly postponed the debate until Friday.
The debate was called following pressure from the ultra right-wing party TLP, which held violent anti-France protests for more than a week demanding the expulsion of the French envoy over offensive depictions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) published in France.
“The issue of demand of expulsion of the French ambassador would be discussed in the parliament,” the resolution read. It also said that all European countries, especially France, would be informed of the gravity of the issue. The government on Sunday denied reports on social media that elderly citizens could walk into Lahore s Expo Centre to get vaccinated against the coronavirus without an appointment.
Officials stressed that registered citizens must wait to receive a pin code via SMS before proceeding to their assigned vaccination centre.
The confusion was caused by a message that was widely shared on social media on Saturday three days after Pakistan rolled out vaccination for people aged 60 years or older. The text quoted staff at Expo Centre Lahore as saying that anyone over 60 can walk in with an ID card and get vaccinated without waiting for the SMS code .

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said government senators are being approached to gain their support for the opposition’s candidate in the upcoming election for Senate chairman.
On the other hand, ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has so far not announced its candidate for the office of deputy chairman, keeping the slot open and placing itself in a better bargaining position to ensure support of its allies and independent candidates.
