AGAWAM Mayor William Sapelli’s COVID-19 scare last week was a false alarm, the mayor said Tuesday.
Sapelli said a “rapid” test on Dec. 5 showed a positive result, leading him to quarantine himself. He was able to do much of his work at home, though he had to miss the Dec. 7 City Council meeting. He received a negative result from the more precise polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on Dec. 10.
The mayor said his advice to those who think they have been exposed to the virus is to make sure they get the best test possible, even if it means testing once for speed and once for accuracy.
